What i pay attention to is their special offers when signing up and what they offer customers on a regular basis. The cold, hard fact is that if you’re betting on accumulators then it’s pretty likely that you’re going to lose, however, if you follow the steps above then i believe you will eliminate some of the most common mistakes made when making your selections. They add very little to your overall winnings and there is always the chance that they can let you down and not even win at all. Don’t get sucked in by this as they are just as likely (or unlikely) as everyone else to pick a winning accumulator. It’s not a way to make an extra income (although it does feel great when you win) If the enjoyment has gone then it only spells trouble.
DON’T LET THE HEART RULE THE HEAD. It’s pointless me betting on the Argentinian league or the Brazilian league as i wouldn’t have a clue what i was doing, So i just normally stick to the English leagues, as it’s easier for me to spot a bet that i think is good value.
Now most online bookmakers will guarantee the best odds so i don’t pay too much attention when i read that. If you do lose your money then walkaway, it’s as simple as that. A pointless bet in my opinion.
If you aren’t enjoying betting on sporting events then you are doing it for the wrong reasons. The chances are that if you don’t they will win and the team you chose in their place at the last minute will let you down. If you can’t walkaway then you shouldn’t be betting.
DON’T CHANGE YOUR MIND
Now and again you will see ex footballers giving their advice on who to pick and who to stay clear of. Also if you don’t fancy a team in the first place then don’t change your mind. There are my top 10 tips for gambling on football accumulators. Here’s my guide:
It’s easy to get carried away when filling out your betting slip as you watch the odds rise, sometimes you almost convince yourself that you can’t lose. Also it’s good to scour the internet to see what people make of a certain bookmakers customer service help lines. I always pick a 4 team accumulator of 4 draws amongst my bets as the odds for a match finishing all square rarely goes below 2/1.
BET ON WHAT YOU KNOW
I make a point of never including my beloved Stoke City in any of my accumulators. I thank you for reading and i hope you found this hub helpful. When there is money at stake you want to know that you can get hold of the company in question and get the help you require.
When picking your teams it is often easy to just go for a team to win and forget about the other result, a draw. Feel free to leave any comments below.
BET FOR ENJOYMENT
DON’T ADD TEAMS WHO’S ODDS ARE TOO SHORT
If you look through the paper and fancy a certain team then make sure you pick them. Go with your initial instinct.
DON’T LISTEN TO THE “EXPERTS”
Now let me start by telling you that this isn’t some great foolproof betting system that never fails as they simply don’t exist. The reason for this is i have included them before and they have been the only team to let me down on more than one occasion. Just because they used to play the game means nothing. You can often talk yourself around to the idea of betting on someone else, and in my experience it only leads to disappointment. What this is, is a few tips on what to do and what not to do when betting on football accumulators, no guarantees, no 99.9% accuracy nonsense, just things that in my opinion you NEED to know and realise before even attempting to place your bet.
DON’T ADD TOO MANY TEAMS
Ok so this is an obvious one but it’s so easy to get caught up in the moment. It’s easy to have have a blinkered view when it comes to your team.
DON’T IGNORE THE DRAW
KNOW YOUR BOOKMAKERS
So there it is. I tend to stick with 4 or 5 teams at the most, even then it’s hard enough. Back your own judgement, nobody elses.
When betting on football i only bet on teams and leagues that i know about. Looking back on it if i was a neutral then i probably wouldn’t have picked them. Gambling to me is a form of entertainment, just like going to the cinema is for other people. Set yourself a limit before you start betting, a figure that you know you can afford to lose. If you feel the need to bet on quite a few teams then i’d suggest a low stake as the chances of winning are incredibly small.
KNOW YOUR LIMITS
If a team is 1/7 to win then i don’t even consider it as there is absolutely no value in them

“The vintage market is still the place for people to get involved purely from an investment standpoint,” says Kelnhofer. But that was until the card companies tried to get in on the fun. But with Ripken’s achievement faded from the minds of collectors, that same ungraded card would only fetch $40 today.
Then there are the cards from the 1970s and 1980s, which predate the card explosion, that some experts like Kelnhofer say could experience the next wave of popularity.
But many in the industry, like Madec, who is currently attending the National Sports Collectors Convention, is certain that is there is a future for this enduring hobby, despite its setbacks in recent years. “There’s always buyers and sellers for that material.”
Hope for future?
The hobby looks like it has rebounded from the doldrums of the 90s, but is there money to be made in collecting Aarons and Ruths?
Cards dating back to the turn of the 20th century that were produced as promotional items for ice cream, candy and tobacco companies are some of the hottest cards on the market right now, according to collectors.
Even in good times, collecting is a tough hobby. “The questions are still out there as to whether it will have an impact or not.”
Most valuable cards
But there is a lot of fickleness too, says Scott Kelnhofer, editor of Card Trade, the monthly trade journal for the sports collection industry
In fact, the fabled Honus Wagner card, which was produced by the Sweet Caporal Cigarette Company in 1909, is currently the most expensive card in existence, worth a cool $1.265 million. It boils down to a couple of simple principles — how many there are and what kind of condition the card is in.
And in June, Major League Baseball and the players’ association teamed up with card manufacturers Topps and Upper Deck to launch the first ever National Baseball Card Day, giving out 500,000 card packs at hobby shops and retailers nationwide in an effort to promote the hobby.
Earlier this year, the Major League Baseball Players Association lent their assistance, cutting in half the number of licenses it offers to card manufacturers in an effort to rid the glut of new cards on the market.
What’s hot now.
Andy Madec, a dealer based in Camarillo, Calif., remembers that time vividly.
Even though the hobby struggles to bring young collectors into the fold, there have been some promising signs for baseball card collecting as of late.
NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) — Once a year, baseball-card collectors gather for the granddaddy of all sports collectible conventions – the National Sports Collectors Convention.
The market has been bouncing back, particularly vintage cards, those that date backs 25 years or more. Flooding the market with multiple versions of new cards, the manufacturers drove down card values.
Take Cal Ripken Jr.’s 1982 Topps rookie card. (See the most valuable cards.)
“It just got too out of hand,” says Madec, who runs his own firm, Andy Madec Sports Cards Inc. “It turned people off.”
Steroids’ next victim: Baseball labor peace
Currently underway in Anaheim, Calif., the four-day event will not only be a place for collectors to haggle over the value of their Lou Gehrigs and Jackie Robinsons, there’s bound to be a few collectors who reflect on how the hobby took a nosedive during the 1990s.
“It’s a tricky thing,” Kelnhofer says. “Investors just need to hear it’s safe to go back in.”
Dealers like Stephen Dickler, who runs SD Trading, located just outside of Philadelphia, says moves such as this could work, but it’s too early to tell. In 1996, the year after Ripken broke Lou Gehrig’s record for number of most consecutive games played, a card in mint condition that had not been professionally appraised would have sold for $90. “There’s no guarantee it will happen,” says Dickler. Best baseball books
Rookie cards of players like Mickey Mantle, who typified the golden era of baseball, are always in high demand among older collectors.
Up until the late 1980s and early 1990s, collectors were living in a golden age, says Madec – returns of 20 percent in just six months were not unheard of. “This market has incredible potential,” he says
He is not taken in by being involved in USC-Notre Dame just because it is the biggest watched game of the day. There are almost an infinite number of scenarios that can happen in a single football game. “When you’re in a good rhythm and winning, you want to increase your bets.
But that doesn’t mean you have to bet like a “square” and throw away your hard-earned money.
Also, it’s probably a good idea to disregard advice from the myriad of ex-players and football experts you see on television each week. If you like an underdog, it is best to get your bet in as late as possible, where there is heavy action from squares on favorites. “In trying to bamboozle potential customers, many services make claims about having scouts all over the country that give them inside information and promise 70 or even 80 percent winners, as if the bookmakers were the biggest suckers in the world. “The key to proper money management is to be sure not to bet more than you can afford to lose.”
Moseman agrees and especially likes home underdogs. Not all games work according to this formula, but it is usually a good rule of thumb.”
“A square is the average, unsophisticated gambler whose decision making is based on hunches, media manipulation, or spurious systems that cannot overcome the bookmaker’s inherent mathematical advantage,” Konik explains. Oakland comes to mind) seem like the Super Bowl.
Another difference between squares and sharps is how they approach betting on game day.
Michael Konik, a sports writer and best-selling author of The Smart Money (Simon & Schuster 2006), explains why it is so hard for the recreational gambler to win at betting on football.
While these tips don’t guarantee you’re going to win, hopefully they can make you a little less square and a little more sharp in your picks this season.
Ted Sevransky, a well-known Las Vegas gambler and sports consultant with Sportsmemo.com, agrees.
“A square or recreational player might have a vague plan, but after two Corona’s he will definitely run to the window and make a hasty decision on the USC-Notre Dame game because he wants to be involved in the party atmosphere,” Vaccaro says.
Although exact figures are impossible to calculate, according to Jimmy Vaccaro, widely considered to be Las Vegas’ most influential bookmaker, Americans probably wager more than $50 billion a year on NFL and college football combined. “If you become an expert on a smaller conference like the WAC, you have a good chance to beat the house because sports book operators do not have the time or resources to follow this conference the way you can. Bet at the Right Time – “The sharp bettors tend to bet underdogs, and they tend to bet them early,” Moseman says. He loses year after year, according to Dan Gordon, a top football handicapper and author of How to Beat the Sports Books (Cardoza Publishing 2005). Drinking and Gambling Don’t Mix – “There is a reason the casinos in Las Vegas supply you with free drinks while you are gambling,” Moseman says. Slim underdogs regularly win outright. “The sharps are usually members of a betting syndicate privy to the most up-to-date information on injuries, weather, game plans, and, most important, the real power of the teams involved. “There will be more discrepancy in the numbers at different sports books. Giving 11 to 10 odds is almost always the cheapest price you can give.”
“The biggest mistake that amateur bettors make is they increase their bets when they are losing,” Sevransky says. Avoid Chasing Bets – “Don’t do it! There is no worse way to mismanage your bankroll than to chase your bets after a losing day,” cautions Moseman on the dangerous practice of trying to immediately win back your losses. To be a successful sports bettor you need to operate with a clear mind.”
“Most people with an understanding of football gambling bet between 3 percent and 5 percent of their bankroll, increasing when they win and reducing when they lose,” Vaccaro says. There is a wealth of information on the Internet; it is just up to you to find it and research it daily.”
So, is it possible for the average square to become a little sharper in making football bets this season? According to professionals like Vacarro, Konik and Gordon, amateur bettors have the best chance to win if they demonstrate a little patience and follow the 10 basic tips below.
2. “For example, if you have a $1,000 bankroll for the season, you should generally bet no more than $50 a game.”
However, Konik adds that there are some bettors who actually know how to beat the bookies. Thanks to the juice, the only one who profits in this scenario is the bookmaker. Also, being “in action” can make a dull late-afternoon game (Buffalo vs. Locks Don’t Exist – “Anyone who has watched sports for about a month realizes that the difference between winning and losing, especially against the spread, can be infinitesimally small,” Gordon says.
1. “Teams play inspired ball at home. If you want advice about sports betting, find someone who has a successful track record. Shop For Numbers – “Another important aspect of betting on football is shopping for the best number,” Moseman explains. So underdogs tend to be slightly undervalued – except by the sharps.”
“In an average season, fewer than one bettor in twelve turns a profit,” Gordon says. Big underdogs often find ways to cover the spread and they rarely give up toward the end of a game in front of the home crowd.”
Newspapers and popular sports sites routinely publish the lines or point spreads for games, and football insiders offer their picks to viewers each week on ESPN and other cable networks.
Betting on football games; whether it’s through a local bookie, an offshore Internet site or a Nevada casino (still the only legal place in America to make football bets), most of us have done it or know of someone who has. “As for me, the best bet in football is betting the point spread or over/under totals on individual games.
And remember, in the immortal words of “Fast” Eddie Felson, “Money won is twice as sweet as money earned.”
“The talking heads on TV know nothing about sports betting,” says Sevransky. “Most people prefer to bet on the ‘better’ team, the one that will probably win the game. The payout is just the same as far as he is concerned.
3. “In the NFL, a game will often be totally turned around by one or two plays, or even a single penalty. Avoid Exotic Bets – “For very skilled handicappers, with a proven track record, there can, at least in theory, be value in betting parlays,” says Gordon on the type of bet that combines two or more individual wagers. “If you listen to their advice, you are sure to lose. Research Football Services – “Most sports services realize that most people who sign up with them are insecure,” Gordon warns. In fact, sports bettors must pick 52.4 percent winners just to break even.”
10. “Because alcohol clouds your judgment and usually helps you to make rash decisions you usually wouldn’t otherwise make. The only touts bettors should consider are the ones who talk about the long haul and realistic winning percentages, which are in the upper 50 percent to lower 60 percent range.”
But even though the math says it’s virtually impossible to win on a consistent basis, Americans continue to bet on football.
Even Hollywood is not immune – think Two for the Money with Al Pacino and Matthew McConaughey.
So, how much are we gambling each football season?
“A sharp or smart has a plan of what he wants to do,” says Vaccaro, the director of sports operations and public relations at Lucky’s Race and Sports Book in Las Vegas. “Over the course of several seasons, the percentage of bettors who turn a profit is minuscule.”
5. Focus on Conferences – “The best way to win money betting football is to develop a niche and follow it closely,” Moseman advises. “Common wisdom says that over the course of a long football season the average man or woman will pick approximately 50 percent winners.
And where does all that money go?
“The bookies fear and despise a tiny coterie of professional bettors known as ‘the sharps,'” Konik says. And why not? We have unconditional love for the sport and betting $50 or $100 on a game adds an extra rush of adrenaline. “Thus, the bookies love and cherish the squares.”
“There is probably no better bet in sports than playing an underdog at home,” Moseman says. They use powerful computers that can process millions of bits of data and produce a more accurate point-spread line than the bookmakers.”
Certainly not back into the pockets of the average bettor. The only locks that exist are those that need keys to open them.”
So, how much should you bet a game?
9. These books change their numbers according to the betting patterns of their customers, so it is not entirely uncommon to find two or three point differences in the lines.”
“The standard bet requires gamblers to lay $11 for every $10 they want to win with the extra $1 or 10 percent known as the juice,” Konik says. Money Management – “This is without a doubt the most important aspect of betting on sports and possibly the most neglected,” says Morey “Doc” Moseman, a professional gambler and sports consultant with DocSports.com for nearly 40 years. The NFL, for example, will have very similar numbers at most of the betting shops you visit. “He is not jaded by teams and does not bet with his heart. Chasing losses is the fastest way to the poor house.”
8. Otherwise, you’re better off doing your own research.”
4. On college you will be able to find different lines at different sports books. Consider Underdogs – “In the long-run, it’s easier to win betting on the underdog,” Konik says. If you are going to go with a favorite, it is best to place your bet early in the week when the sharps are laying heavy money on the points. “Squares usually bet later in the week and they tend to pick the favorites. But, when you’re struggling, that’s when you want to reduce your bet size until you get out of your slump. If North Texas is his best bet on a Saturday then that is his bet

In doing so they attempt to make more attractive the team that is getting less action.
“The main objective is that our clients get equal action on both sides,” Seba said. In our extended interview, Seba explained that there are 4-5 oddsmakers assigned to make lines for each of the major sports (pro & college football and basketball; MLB, NHL, boxing, golf). Of the 4-5 oddsmakers, generally the 2 most respected opinions are weighed more heavily by the Odds Director before he decides on the final line. The power ratings are adjusted after each game a team plays. Obviously, if the line comes out a week ahead of the event (which is the case in football), there is much that could happen during the week leading up to the event that could affect the line. That is not the case at all – their intent is NOT to evenly split the ATS result between the teams; rather, their goal is to attract equal betting action on both sides.
Once betting begins, sportsbooks can adjust the line at any time. Also, adjustments are made after reading each team’s local newspapers to get a sense of what the coaches & players are thinking going into the game.
The purpose of these adjustments, like all line adjustments, is to more equally divide the betting action. If we’ve done that, we’ve done our job.”
Oddsmakers can also change the line depending on various event-related factors such as player injuries or weather.
“The #1 thing for us is to make a line for each game that creates good two-way action. By necessity their approach is very research-oriented and concise, since with millions of dollars at risk there is little margin for error.
A round-table discussion among the 4-5 oddsmakers involved in making the line for each sport is then conducted and a consensus line is decided upon by the Odds Director before it is released to the sportsbooks. People think it’s much more complicated, but it’s not.”
For example, if the pointspread on a game is 7 and most of the money is coming in on the underdog (taking the +7), sportsbooks will then move the number down to 6 ½ to try and attract money on the favorite.
Since the oddsmaker’s ultimate goal is equally dividing the betting action, public perception and betting patterns must be taken into account.
Once the opening line is released by LVSC, the individual sportsbooks decide if they want to make any adjustments before offering it to the public.
Power ratings are the oddsmaker’s value of each team and are used as a guide to calculate a “preliminary” pointspread on an upcoming game. This usually includes having up-to-date power ratings on each team. Stated another way, they want to create a line that half the people find appealing to bet one way while the other half find it appealing to bet the other way (known as ‘dividing the action’). Reasons for such adjustments include:
Divided action means the sportsbook is guaranteed a profit on the game because of the fee charged to the bettor (called juice or vig – typically $11 bet to win $10).
Why the Line Changes
Las Vegas Sports Consultants (LVSC) is the world’s premier oddsmaking company and the most respected authority on making the lines.
Moving the line is the oddsmaker’s effort to balance betting action, and often times such moves can have a major impact on a bettor’s decision. We do this by drawing from past experiences and applying them to current situations.
There is a common misconception that point spreads represent the oddsmakers’ prediction of how many points the favorite will win by. For example, the public might have heavy betting interest week after week on a popular college football team such as USC.
Individual books having players who consistently bet with certain tendencies (such as an extreme bias toward favorites or toward a certain popular team like USC)
Oddsmakers at LVSC are professional sports junkies who love what they do and would probably do it for nothing if you asked them, but they do get paid for it. Oddsmakers have to determine if any changes are necessary and send out an “adjusted line.”
Once a game’s power rating based pointspread is determined, the oddsmaker will make adjustments to that line after considering each team’s most recent games played and previous games played against that opponent. By moving the line, sportsbooks can influence how the public bets on a particular game.
. Each of these oddsmakers bring unique opinions, strengths and weaknesses to the process. Examples of non-game factors that would require an adjustment to a team’s power rating are key player injuries and player trades. Seba explained that it all starts with each oddsmaker creating a line on each game based upon their own personal approach.
Experts working for the individual books having a strong opinion on the game
The last step in the line-making process for each oddsmaker is taking one final look to determine whether or not the line “feels right.” This is where common sense and past experience with how games are bet enters into the picture.
“You either have a passion for it or you don’t,” Seba said. If an oddsmaker comes up with a preliminary line of USC -7, then an adjustment up to -7.5 or -8 would be made in response to the public’s expected USC bias. Mike Seba is a Senior Oddsmaker at LVSC and has been making lines for the last six years. The opening line is the first line created by the oddsmakers, which is then sent out to sportsbooks. “We’re not trying to pick the team that covers the spread, we’re trying to make it a coin flip, a tough decision (for the bettor). Of course there is an entire method to the madness on how the opening line is created
These experts realize something that most people do not, and that is, prediction football do not need to be accurate to the extremes with match results, but all they need is a prediction football system to tell them whether their bets have a good enough opportunity to beat the sports books’ handicap.
Sports books determine football handicaps and odds based on a number of data which they have collected over the years, therefore, while most people think that they can perfectly master the skill of prediction football just by understanding the sport itself, only a very small number of people who bet on football manage to win money consistently. As the saying goes, the ball is round, and there are factors in every game that can tilt the balance and the score line in an instant, so to regularly hit results perfectly in prediction football is certainly not possible. Some of these football betting systems deliver strike rates up to 80% over an entire season, and is still being refined.
So, how does the small percentage of big winners manage to win their football bets over and over?
The secret lies in their systematic approach to betting on football. Predict Football Score Predictions
Prediction football is more of a science than an art. While a lot of people out there argue that football betting is won on factors like “gut feel”, “luck” and “experience”, the biggest winners that consistently make tons of money betting on football are still the ones who go about their “investments” in a scientific and systematic manner.
The key to their success, is in the systems which they use to know which bets are worth placing. Predict Football Score Predictions

She asked friends, family and former players to write letters to Horton’s daughters, sharing their favorite memories of the coach.
One day, after an NC State game, Horton’s limited dexterity prevented him from being able to button his shirt. One of his players, Russell Wilson, now quarterback for the Seattle Seahawks, quietly came over to help the coach.
The story left Horton embarrassed, but it inspired his wife to create MagnaReady, a line of shirts with magnetic buttons for people with disabilities.
In addition to her work as the MagnaReady CEO and fighting to raise Parkinson’s awareness, Maura Horton is fighting to keep the memory of her husband alive for her girls.
“I am happy to call you two my ‘little sisters.’ “
Horton, 58, spent a decade coaching at Boston College and six years at North Carolina State University. “I feel very protective of the girls, and I want them to know how loved they were and how special he was, to be able to be those kind of human beings that will change the world, too.”
Even after they parted ways, Daniels wrote, Horton called him twice a month in the 14 years that passed since his last game at Boston College.
Their struggle with the disease also inspired Maura to make the lives of other Parkinson’s patients better.
“They need to be who they are going to be but with the values that Don wanted them to have: education and perseverance.”
When Zukauskas, now a high school football coach in Massachusetts, learned of Horton’s illness, he called the coach’s wife, Maura Horton, to see how he could help.
Zukauskas, Ricky Brown and Al Washington, all former players from Boston College, set up a GoFundMe page in April to raise money for hospital expenses and an education fund for Horton’s two daughters. Many of the letters noted the same thing and suggested why: Horton believed in his players, or his men, as he called them.
“He would be very proud of these young men for helping take care of his girls,” Maura Horton said.
What worries Horton’s wife most is whether Libby, 13, and Hadley, 8, will know who their father really was.
Daniels wrote about how Horton came to his high school in Indiana to meet him and how he later helped ease the player’s cross-country move to North Carolina.
“We keep saying over and over we’re going to be all right. He was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2006 and retired from the football field in 2013. I’m not letting in, because it’ll just be me single parenting. I’m not going to give in,” the 46-year-old said between tears.
A dozen or so former players sent the family letters describing what the coach meant to each of them.
“When I sat down with your dad that day at my school, I knew he was the coach that I wanted to follow,” he wrote to Horton’s daughters.
“People can make such a difference in such a short time in life,” she said. You two, along with your mom, Maura, are forever entrenched in it,” Daniels wrote.
One of the most emotional letters came from former Boston College player DuJuan Daniels, a national scout for the New England Patriots.
Horton’s wife hopes his legacy will be a lasting one, for their daughters and the world. The coach offered him career advice and treated him like “part of his family.”
Football wasn’t the only thing Horton cared about, he added: “He cared about school, he cared about your family, he cared about you, the kid he was welcoming into his family.
Daniels said he felt safe and cared for. It was his diagnosis that drove the Hortons to “complete the vision” of what their family was going to be, his wife said.
Hadley only knew him with this disease. They sought in vitro fertilization, and Hadley was born.
“With Coach Horton, it was the way he made us feel outside the meeting rooms and practice fields,” said former Cleveland Browns offensive lineman Paul Zukauskas. “He was a guy that could be tough as a coach, but he’d ask how your family was doing. Ten years after his diagnosis, Horton died surrounded by his two daughters and his wife.
When Daniels suffered a career-ending knee injury years later, Horton was there to support him, he said. When Horton went into a hospice home on May 15, family friend Melanie Walker offered a way for the girls to remember their father forever. As of Wednesday, the fund had raised more than $42,000 for the family.
Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan, Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive lineman Gosder Cherilus and former New York Giants defensive end Mathias Kiwanuka are among Horton’s former players who have donated to the cause.
“I can assure you that your dad, Don Horton, had a heart of solid gold. He really took the time to get to know everybody.”
“In a football world where players are treated as numbers, you treated us as people, and stood out,” wrote Ryan Utzler, former running back at Boston College.
If you knew Horton or want to share a message, the family asks that you email email@example.com.
“I knew he would look after me, just like he promised my mom, sister and grandmother he would with me being hundreds and hundreds of miles away from the only place I had ever known,” Daniels wrote.
Though he was suspended in August, Rodriguez played out the 2013 season because of the appeal.
The former Seattle Mariner, Texas Ranger and now New York Yankee player then took a swipe at Selig, whom he has claimed in the past had an unjustified vendetta against him.
The 162-game suspension — which is the most severe punishment in baseball history for doping — highlights baseball Commissioner Bud Selig’s recent high-profile crackdown on performance-enhancing drugs. .
Rodriguez, one of the best players of his generation who was once considered an automatic Hall of Fame candidate, was defiant in a statement released Saturday.
“The number of games sadly comes as no surprise, as the deck has been stacked against me from day one,” said Rodriguez, who has struggled with hip injuries in recent years.
The ruling by Major League Baseball arbitrator Fredric Horowitz will not only cost Rodriguez $25 million in salary, it also further clouds the groundbreaking career of a player who will turn 40 during the 2015 season.
Rodriguez, 38, is fifth on MLB’s list of all-time home run leaders, just six behind Willie Mays.
“This is one man’s decision that was not put before a fair and impartial jury,” Rodriguez said, “does not involve me having failed a single drug test, is at odds with the facts and is inconsistent with the terms of the Joint Drug Agreement and the Basic Agreement, and relies on testimony and documents that would never have been allowed in any court in the United States because they are false and wholly unreliable.”
“No player should have to go through what I have been dealing with, and I am exhausting all options to ensure not only that I get justice, but that players’ contracts and rights are protected through the next round of bargaining, and that the MLB investigation and arbitration process cannot be used against others in the future the way it is currently being used to unjustly punish me,” Rodriguez said in a statement.
Major League Baseball did not release details of the arbitrator’s decision, which the players union said it “strongly disagrees” with.
Story highlights The New York Yankees say they “respect” the decision Alex Rodriguez suspended for 2014 regular season and postseasonDecision will cost slugger $25 million Rodriguez plans to appeal
An arbitrator Saturday upheld most of New York Yankees slugger Alex Rodriguez’s 211-game doping suspension, keeping him out of the 162-game 2014 regular season and the postseason.
The Yankees said in a statement that they “respect Major League Baseball’s Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program, the arbitration process, as well as the decision released today by the arbitration panel.”
Saturday’s ruling stemmed from Rodriguez’s appeal of a his suspension by MLB, which accused him of taking performance-enhancing drugs and having ties to the now-shuttered Biogenesis clinic in South Florida.
Biogenesis was a former anti-aging clinic that MLB said supplied steroids to at least a dozen baseball players.
Rodriguez, who has claimed he was the target of a MLB “witch hunt,” probably will appeal Horowitz’s decision in the courts or to seek to delay the suspension. He will likely appeal in federal court.
Rodriguez, one of 14 players suspended in the Biogenesis scandal, was the only one who appealed his suspension. When the suspension ends in 2015, Rodriguez will be owed $61 million in a contract that runs through 2017
